Karen Wasserman, Production Manager

Technical Analysis of STOCKS & COMMODITIES

As Production Manager, I work with the Editor and Copy Editor in preparing articles for publication in STOCKS & COMMODITIES. I prepare the Letters to S&C and Trade News & Products columns, and I help prepare other parts of the magazine to help ensure each page is as perfect as can be! As we proceed through the production of each month's issue, I help troubleshoot production problems, and I help document what's proved effective and what policies we should follow. I also take care of the archives, both electronic and physical (though I hate that dusty basement vault!). I also head up various special projects, such as putting together the books we print. Finally, I handle your requests for article reprints.

LETTERS TO S&C:
Send us your questions, answers or comments relating to trading or the articles published in this magazine. Address them to "Editor" or "Letters to S&C," and if your letter's relevant, topical or educational, we'll publish it in an upcoming issue. Please bear in mind we get many requests for help for one project or another, but we don't have the resources to do research for you. We can't research which data services offer a choice of transmission via cable, FM or satellite; we can't research which services offer commodity and stock data and have automatic parity checking; and we can't research which services offer data back to 1971 or offer sports scores or cost less than $6 a month. But if you ask a question about technical analysis or trading, S&C Editor Thom Hartle will certainly try to pass along his wisdom in response to your letter.

TRADE NEWS & PRODUCTS:
Press releases sent to STOCKS & COMMODITIES announcing new products and services may wind up at my desk for possible publication in our Trade News & Products column. Trade News & Products presents descriptions of new products, services and product upgrades relating to technical analysis and trading. Not only do we summarize information from press releases, trading calendars and product announcements for the column, but also books and products sent in for review first make a stop here before going on to Technical Editor John Sweeney for a possible review.

Press releases or product announcements may be mailed, faxed or E-mailed to us for submission to the Trade News section. All submissions will be edited for length, style and clarity (that means I leave out all the "verys," "superbs," "stupendouses" and "delightfuls" from those descriptions you try to get by me). Submission does not guarantee publication (though bribery occasionally works). Include the 5 Ws (that's who, what, when, where and why to you non-journalism majors) or at least the product name, price, a short description and the company's address and phone number. We like pictures, so include electronic files with screen captures if you want (via floppy disk or E-mail). We photograph many physical products sent in, and if you have any awesome WWW site graphics, we might sneak a screen capture of one of those to make that Trade News page even more exciting than it already is!

REPRINTS:
I take care of your reprint orders, so if you need bulk copies of an article published in STOCKS & COMMODITIES, call me or check out the Reprints area of our Web site. We can do color or black & white, and quantities start at 100 copies. I can provide you with a quote for custom work on a reprint and I can send you reprint samples. Call me with any questions.

COPYRIGHT INFORMATION:
If you're interested in reprinting any material appearing in STOCKS & COMMODITIES, I can help you arrange that. Remember, we own the copyright on the stuff you see in the magazine, and it's against the law to reproduce any of it without the publisher's permission (except for, say, the photocopy you make of the table on page 37 at 150% because you left your glasses at home, or, say, the photocopy you make of pages 75-76 to share with your co-worker, who then sees how wonderful our magazine is and calls us immediately to subscribe). So if you need bulk copies of an article for distribution or if you want to republish an article in your newsletter, you need to request permission from our publisher to do that. Feel free to call or E-mail me for more information.

I graduated from a small school in the Midwest with a bachelor's degree in French and a minor in English writing. During my college years I spent some time in Paris learning the language, studying the culture and (okay, okay) shopping. I've worked here at STOCKS & COMMODITIES since 1988 and have watched it move more and more into the digital age. Having been a part of one of the first generations to receive computer programming instruction in high school, I enjoy working with computers and exploring different software products. However, I don't spend my off-time surfing the Internet; rather, I prefer bicycling the backroads, hiking Mt. Rainier, or attending concerts in coffee houses around Seattle.
