ICHIMOKU CHARTS

Editor,

I am interested in using ichimoku charts. Can you tell me of any charting services that provide access to this type of chart?

Kirby Owen
Yulee, FL

A check of our Traders' Resource database of products and services at our website (https://technical.traders.com/Products/searchinfo.asp) for software that lists ichimoku charts as a feature comes up with PatternExplorer for AmiBroker. You may wish to give that a look at www.PatternExplorer.com.

In our September 2007 issue, we published an article by Nicole Elliott titled "Ichimoku Kinko Hyo Charts." In that article, she used Reuters Graphics Professional to plot ichimoku charts. In our October 2000 issue, we published an article by Ken Muranaka titled "Ichimoku Charts." In that same issue, our Traders' Tips section covered ichimoku charts.

Sample ichimoku chart

Many charting programs, such as eSignal, TradeStation, NeuroShell Trader, MetaStock, and others can plot ichimoku charts by plotting the component indicators, which were outlined in Muranaka's October 2000 article as well as the October 2000 Traders' Tips section. You will find the October 2000 Traders' Tips at our website. Use the search engine to locate it.--Editor

REFERENCE BOOK FOR POINT & FIGURE CHARTING?

Editor,

Please advise me of a book that specifically shows the method and techniques for trading forex using the point & figure method discussed in the article by James Chen in the February 2008 S&C ("Forex Focus: Point & Figure For Forex").

Mark
Toronto, Canada

James Chen replies:

I don't really know of a book that deals specifically with point & figure charts in the forex market (and I pretty much own all of the books on forex and technical analysis currently available). However, probably the best and most comprehensive current book on point & figure charts for all markets would be Point & Figure Charting: The Essential Application For Forecasting And Tracking Market Prices by Thomas J. Dorsey. Hope that helps.

METASTOCK FORMULA FOR HISTORICAL VOLATILITY SYSTEM?

Editor,

I recently came across the book Street Smarts by Connors and Raschke on the historical volatility system. I noticed that your magazine has a few articles on the subject. I am particularly interested in MetaStock code. Since S&C is not in the business of generating code, I wonder if the code was included in any of those articles? I wanted to ask before I buy the articles from your Online Store.

Olasimbo

Equis International, developer of MetaStock, contributed some MetaStock code to the Traders' Tips section of our August 1996 issue on the topic of Laurence Connors' and Linda Bradford Raschke's historical volatility system. You will find this at our website at:

https://www.traders.com/Documentation/FEEDbk_docs/Archive/0896/0896tradetips.html#anchor1081552
(or use the search engine at our website to locate this Traders' Tips topic).

The article "Historical Volatility And Pattern Recognition" by Laurence A. Connors and Linda Bradford Raschke, published in the August 1996 issue of S&C, did not itself contain code.

You could also try checking www.MetaStock.com for code related to Connors' and Raschke's historical volatility system.--Editor

PIVOT POINTS

Editor,

I've been a subscriber to S&C for about three years. I am desperately trying to find any topics that relate to pivot points. I tried to search on the S&C website, but the results don't show pivot points, just mixed topics. Can you help?

Vito

Here are some articles that have appeared in Technical Analysis of STOCKS & COMMODITIES magazine on the subject of pivot points. See the Online Store at our website at https://store.traders.com to purchase articles.

• "Pivot Points" by Jayanthi Gopalakrishnan, February 2000 (Volume 18, No. 2)
• "The Pivot Point For Trading" by William I. Greenspan, August 1994 (Volume 12, No. 8)
• "Three Turns On The Pivot Point" by William Greenspan,  July 1996 (Volume 14, No. 7)
• "Q&A" by Don Bright, July 2001 (Volume 19, No. 7)
• "What Are Pivots?", Working Money, by Dennis D. Peterson, Volume 20, No. 4

    Hope this helps.--Editor

PERSONAL TRADING COACH

Editor,
Where would you guide me to find a personal coach who will work with me one on one to fine-tune my personal trading plan/strategy?

K.E.
San Diego, CA

You can check the Traders' Resource database at our website (https://technical.traders.com/Products/searchinfo.asp) for listings of trading coaches. Use the search feature there to search for the keyword "coach" in both the Consultants category and Courses & Seminars category.

In addition, some personal trading coaches advertise in this magazine. To widen your search, you can also look for trading centers and educational facilities that provide trading assistance. In the Readers' Choice Awards section of our annual Bonus Issue, we offer a category called "Training centers, schools, and training," in which our readers voted for places that they considered helpful.--Editor

ONLINE TRADING COURSES

Editor,
I am new to the world of trading. I know this question is outside the scope of what you write about in your publication, but I was wondering if you could help.

I am interested in finding the best online trading course to learn to trade stocks. I have bought many books to help me understand the world of stocks, options, futures, and mutual funds. However, I have found there are so many courses advertised on TV and in magazines that I don't know which one is best. They all look impressive. I turn to you for help in making the best decision on which course to take.

Thank you. You have an excellent magazine.
Marvin Gardner

As mentioned in my response to the previous question, you might check the Readers' Choice Awards feature in our annual Bonus Issue for the category of "Training centers, schools, and training" for services that our readers tell us they have found useful. You can also browse the category of Courses & Seminars in the Traders' Resource database at our website (https://technical.traders.com/Products/searchinfo.asp) for features you may be looking for, although this database is only a listing, not a ranking or rating.

Unfortunately, we are unable to make specific product or service recommendations to individual readers because everyone's needs are different, and because as a magazine, we do not endorse products or services. However, we recommend checking with other users or students, if possible, for feedback on a course, and also look for money-back guarantees or free trial periods with no strings attached.

Whenever readers are looking to purchase a product, in general we recommend following the guidance offered on the SEC's website (https://www.sec.gov), as well as https://www.nfa.futures.org, which offers background information on companies and services related to the futures industry in a database called BASIC (Background Affiliation Status Information Center).

You may also wish to ask other S&C readers for suggestions at the message-boards at our website, Traders.com. Good luck!--Editor

ERRATA: MISSING PAGE

Due to a print error in the March 2008 S&C, a page was missing from the article "Buying Straddles" by Jay Kaeppel. The article has been posted in full at our website, www.Traders.com, in the Free Articles area. Readers without online access can contact our circulation department at 800-Technical or (206) 938-0570, or write to us for a copy of the full article.

ERRATA: TRADE NEWS & PRODUCTS

In the February 2008 S&C in the Trade News & Products column, we incorrectly paired a picture of another website with a news announcement for Market Technologies. The image should have depicted the Market Technologies website (www.Tradertech.com). We regret this error.
