PREPARING COMPUTER FILES:
Advertising insertions may be sent in on computer disk. When sending in a file on disk, it is important to send as complete a set of files as possible. If we are missing any pieces of the file or layout, we will not be able to print it out correctly.
The preferred file format for sending advertisements to us or your local service bureau is PostScript or EPS (Encapsulated PostScript). This file format is available on both the IBM and Macintosh environments. PostScript is a printer language or page description language that is understood by PostScript printers. However, due to some incompatibilities between computer applications, we may occasionally encounter problems printing the PostScript file and may then request the original computer file.
A computer file may require additional files or information to print properly. For example, the computer file that contains the advertisment may use special fonts (typefaces) or may be linked to images or graphics. It is important to send all these pieces on disk. When you save your file as PostScript (or print your file to disk), there will be options to INCLUDE IMAGES and DOWN LOAD POSTSCRIPT FONTS. Click on these options to include everything.
We may be able to accept your original file instead of a PostScript file. File types we currently accept include PageMaker and Illustrator files . At this time, we cannot accept Quark or Correll Draw files. Again, all fonts and linked graphic files must also be provided on disk. A program such as Checklist can help you determine what files and fonts your file needs to print. A save option "for remote printing" or "save with all linked files" may also help ensure your file set is complete.
If an ad includes graphics, the graphics may be stored as separate files. We can successfully read and convert many file formats. The most popular file formats for graphics are the PC Paintbrush (exten sion "PCX") file if the graphic was created on an IBM, or if the graphic was created on a Macintosh, a TIFF (tagged image file format) or EPS (encapsulate PostScript) is best. Below is a list of addi tional computer file types we can read.
